There is a balance between quarterbacks and skill-position players. Most of the other teams took a similar plan when drafted and ended up with a similar composition. None of these quarterbacks are projected to start the entire season, but there is a decent chance that one or two of them form a substantial portion of the season. Other quarterbacks that I added were Drew Lock, Jimmy Garoppolo, Tyrod Taylor, and Andy Dalton. Another advantage of this strategy was that it allowed me to grab potential starting quarterbacks while the running back and wide receiver pools are empty. This provided my team with three running backs and three wide receivers with top ten upside. There are risks to starting both of these guys, but waiting allowed me to select Saquon Barkley, Ezekiel Elliott, Deandre Hopkins, Joe Mixon, Michael Thomas, and Kenny Golladay. With my eight-round pick, I selected Jared Goff. I did not select a quarterback until the seventh round when I selected Matt Ryan. Mid-Round Quarterbacks Embed from Getty Images The team had limited depth at other positions and have some questionable starters. This team was able to obtain Jonathan Taylor with its first pick. The team that drafted from the 11th spot selected Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts with its second and third-round picks. Mayfield is a weaker second quarterback than the previous teams it allowed them to grab better overall starters and will give them a competitive advantage at those positions. With the sixth pick, the team grabbed Baker Mayfield for its second quarterback. This provides the manager with quality depth at the running back position. This team then took four straight running backs. Patrick Mahomes was the first player selected in this draft. Other Early Quarterback Selections Embed from Getty Images There is a lot of young talent to build around. Out of the three teams, this team had the best wide receivers and running backs. Again solid quarterbacks, but limited depth at other vital spots. The last team to take two quarterbacks with its first picks drafted Justin Herbert and Dak Prescott. However, there are no more locked starters at these crucial positions. The following two picks were solid in Aaron Jones and DJ Moore. He is a younger stud at a limited position, but this forced the team to go three rounds without a Wide Receiver or Running Back. This pick is a massive gamble because Watson might not play anytime soon. At the 3rd pick, this team took Deshaun Watson. Both of the guys are locked and loaded starters. This team took Josh Allen and Russell Wilson. The second team the took two quarterbacks early actually took three. Williams is currently in a timeshare and might not see a full workload with the Denver Broncos. They had to draft running back Javonte Williams. These are reliable Wide Receivers, but the team has limited depth. Then they drafted AJ Brown and Terry McLaurin with the following two picks. These are two solid young quarterbacks, and if they live up to their potential, then there is a solid building block for the team. The team that drafted fifth got Kyler Murray and Joe Burrow. Each brought different approaches during the rest of the draft to combat taking quarterbacks early. These teams drafted from the 5th, 8th and 9th positions.
